LISMS 총 감독 유 일은 목회자의 가정에서 태어나 어려서부터 노래에 소질을 보여 많은 교회대항 찬양 경연대회와 각종 학교대항 독창 경연대회에 입상하였다. 숭실고등학교 합창단(지휘: 이영두 교수)을 통해 음악에 입문하게 된 그는 서울신학대학에서 교회음악(성악)을 공부하며 최 훈차 교수의 합창 지도를 받았다. 동 대학원에서 교회음악(성악)(사사: 박치원, 조성문 교수)을 전공했으며, 부천시립합창단(지휘: 최병철)의 상임단원으로 11년간 활동하며 동료들과 함께 남성 앙상블 ‘소리지기’를 창단하며 활동하였다. 사도바울, 메시아 등등의 오라토리오와 각종 미사음악의 솔리스트로 연주함은 물론 지휘자로 활동하였고, 1999년 이래 교회 음악 전문 출판 ‘유빌라테’의 발행인으로 일하고있으며, 1983년 이후 맡은 성가대를 통해서도 여러 개의 찬양 CD를 제작했다. 현재는 LISMS를 유 소목 지휘자와 함께 운영하면서, 예술 총 감독 및 LISC 합창단 지휘자로 또한 버지니아주 클리프톤 소재의 러빙힐 교회 예배, 행정, 찬양 담당 전도사로 사역하고 있다.
Born into a reverend’s family, Director Il Yoo showed early signs of talent in singing, resulting in many successful vocal competitions. He nurtured his passion and talent for singing in Soongsil High School’s choir under Young Du Lee. Yoo majored in church music with a concentration in voice at the Seoul Theological University (STU) and was influenced by Hoon Cha Chai. After completing his graduate studies at STU under Chi Won Park and Sung Moon Cho, Yoo worked as a teacher for five years. He then went on to work in the tenor section of the Bucheon Civic Choir under Byung Chul Choi for 11 years. During his time there, Yoo was a founding member of the all-male vocal ensemble “Sorijigi.” His other works include solo roles in mass music, such as Oratorio ST. Paul, Messiah, Elijah etc. Yoo later founded Jubilate, a Christian printing press for choral music, in 1999. In 2011, Yoo began serving as the executive pastor at Loving Hill Community Church in Clifton, Virginia, focusing on praise and worship. Most recently, he began the Loving Inspiring Sharing Music Society (LISMS), taking on the position of artistic director and conductor for the LIS Youth Choir, Adult Choir, and Youth Orchestra. He is assisted by conductor Somok Yoo, who directs the LIS Chamber Ensemble.
